“As Hastings District’s first Pasifika councillor, getting onto council was a whole new world. There’s a lot to take in, and it’s not always easy to find your way. Wendy was the one who took the time to help me figure it out. She’d sit down with me before meetings, go through the agendas, and make sure I knew how to put my case forward even when she didn’t agree with my position. That’s what a good leader looks like. She is open to different voices and makes sure they’re heard.

We fought together to keep strong Flaxmere representation during the review, and even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, she never gave up on our people. Wendy was born in Flaxmere, she’s proud of this place, and she knows what it’s like to build her life from the ground up. She is for everyone.

This new council will have more change than ever before. They need someone like Wendy who knows how to lead and bring out the best in others by helping them learn. This is why I think Wendy should be our next Mayor.“
