In her current role as councillor, she has led a number of key workstreams, from leading committees working to address the housing crisis and get our tamariki out of emergency motel accommodation, to developing the Mahora community plan by listening directly to residents about what matters most to them. She is always easy to reach and ready to act, whether that’s advocating to improve child safety outside our schools or tackling parking and traffic issues in our neighbourhoods. Wendy brings fresh thinking, a deep understanding of our community’s needs, and the ability to turn insight into impactful action. A clear example of this is her work to ensure that rapid housing growth in Hastings does not negatively impact our community - proactively connecting new housing developments with local education and health providers, and advocating directly to ministers and government officials to make sure those needs are understood and addressed at the highest levels. When choosing our next Mayor, we need someone who understands the real-world impact of council decisions, can work effectively with central government, and has the determination to ensure growth benefits everyone.
